Leadership

Joining an IFC fraternity can open the door to a wide range of leadership opportunities that help members grow both personally and professionally. Within the chapter, individuals can take on chapter officer positions, serve on their council's executive team, and even attend regional and national fraternity leadership conferences - each of which requires responsibility, organization, and decision-making skills. These positions allow members to manage operations, plan events, lead meetings, and collaborate with others toward shared goals. Beyond internal roles, fraternities often engage with campus organizations and community service initiatives, giving members the chance to represent their chapter and make an impact outside their immediate circle. Through these experiences, members develop confidence, communication skills, and the experience to lead groups—qualities that are valuable long after college.

Service

Fraternity life provides numerous service opportunities that allow members to give back to their community while building a strong sense of purpose and connection. Many fraternities organize regular volunteer events, such as working with local charities, participating in campus-wide service days, or supporting national philanthropic causes. Members often have the chance to plan and lead these initiatives, raising funds or awareness for important issues while making a tangible difference. These experiences not only strengthen bonds within the chapter but also help individuals develop empathy, teamwork, and a commitment to helping others. Through consistent involvement in service, fraternity members can leave a positive impact on both their campus and the broader community.

In 2025 alone, the IFC community raised over $251,855 for non-profit organizations and completed over 24,654 hours of community service. Based on the estimated value of a volunteer hour in Nebraska, those hours are worth almost $788,000!

Brotherhood

Fraternity life offers a unique brotherhood experience built on trust, support, and shared values. Members form close relationships through daily interactions, chapter events, and initiatives that bring them together over time. This sense of brotherhood creates a reliable support system, where individuals can lean on one another for advice, encouragement, and friendship. Whether celebrating achievements or navigating life moments, the bonds formed within the fraternity often last well beyond college. These connections foster a strong sense of community and belonging and help members grow alongside people who share similar values and goals.

Scholarship

Joining a fraternity can also support and enhance a member’s academic success through a strong emphasis on scholarship. Many fraternities provide structured study hours, academic mentorship programs, and access to resources like tutoring. Experienced members often guide new members by sharing advice on classes, professors, and effective study strategies. This culture of accountability encourages members to stay focused on their academic goals while balancing social and extracurricular commitments. By surrounding themselves with peers who value achievement and support one another, fraternity members are more likely to stay motivated and perform well in their studies.
